They’ve been around for like, 100 years or so. If you’re reading this, you’re probably a camera nerd - and if you’re a camera nerd, you’ve probably heard of this company called ARRI. Once you see your first few frames through these anamorphic lenses, you will understand what Atlas Lens Co. The size and weight of these lenses make them great for handheld, tripod, dolly, gimbal, and drone workflows. My favorite part of carrying these lenses here in Rentals? I love when customers come into the shop with a smile on their faces because they can now bring the anamorphic look to their clients and their projects.

The Orion series (we have both A and B sets) brings anamorphic shooting to the masses! While traditional anamorphic lenses can be out of reach, budget-wise, we’re thrilled to carry the full set that includes the 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 80mm, and 100mm anamorphic prime lenses. The Mercury series is characterized by warm, vintage tones with golden lens flares. Indeed, the amount of barrel distortion has been carefully calibrated to achieve a specific aesthetic that is pleasant to the eye.

According to the company, although these optics keep chromatic aberrations under control and deliver accurate colors and skin tones, they’re far from being aseptically perfect. Just like with the Orion series, the character of the new Mercury anamorphic primes is the result of a careful research for the perfect balance between optical performance and a characteristic vintage look. When standing next to the existing Orion 40mm, the new Mercury 42mm really shows the effort the company put into shrinking the design. This choice serves two purposes: reducing size and weight, while still providing users with the flexibility they need to achieve a variety of final aspect ratios (2:1 / 2.25:1 / 2.66:1 / 2.4:1) using different sensor modes (16:9/3:2/4:3). The company’s new full-frame Mercury series seems to follow the same principles and is aimed at a similar target, which obviously includes big productions and rental houses, but also solo operators looking to own a professional anamorphic lens set.
